Acute Kids Urgent Care

In 2003, Acute Kids became the first urgent care facility in the Dallas area dedicated specifically to the needs of children. Unique among local urgent care centers, we see only pediatric patients, we are staffed exclusively by pediatric specialists, we are open evenings and weekends, and we work with local pediatricians instead of competing with them. Customer service, efficiency, and comfort of the child and family are all priorities in our system.

The results have been gratifying. Over one hundred eighty thousand children have been seen since we opened with an average door-to-door time of about 30 minutes. Wait times to see a physician have rarely passed 30 minutes, and customer satisfaction is over 98%. Due to demand from parents and pediatricians, additional clinics were opened in Plano in 2005, McKinney in 2006, Flower Mound in 2007, and Allen in 2008.

Acute Kids is honored to have been recognized by numerous entities in the last few years. In 2007, Acute Kids won the Best of Frisco, sponsored by Frisco Style Magazine and the Celebration of Enterprise Award sponsored by Inside Collin County Business. The Celebration of Enterprise honors successful companies that have made a significant contribution to the community of Collin County. In 2008, Acute Kids was named one of the Best Places to Work in Dallas by the Dallas Business Journal. Also in 2008, one of our nurses, Christie Hutchinson, was named a Health Care Hero by the Dallas Business Journal for her work with children through Acute Kids. In 2009, Acute Kids was recognized by the Dallas Business Journal as a Health Care Hero for our work with My Friend’s House, a nonprofit organization that helps children in protective custody. Acute Kids was also named one of the Best Places to Work by the Dallas Business Journal. Acute Kids was a finalist for theBest of Business Award from the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, Best of Business by Frisco Style, and the Celebration of Enterprise Award. Finally, Acute Kids was voted the Best Pediatric Urgent Care Center in the Reader’s Choice Awards with the McKinney Gazette.

Acute Kids has established a new standard for pediatric urgent care in the Dallas area. Every patient encounter is a chance for us to display our efficiency and high customer service standards. We currently have 22 physicians and 78 staff dedicated to caring for your child. Listed below are a few of the key personnel who help make Acute Kids possible.

Kerry Johnson, MD, FAAP, FACEP Dr. Johnson is one of the original founders of Acute Kids and has been a Medical Director with the company since 2003. He performed his medical training through the army and retired a Lt. Colonel. Dr. Johnson is Board Certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Andy Clark, MD, FAAP Dr. Clark has been with Acute Kids since 2008 and is a Medical Director of the clinics. He has previous experience as a Medical Director of a large physician group in Longview as well as experience in Hospital Administration. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics. Christie Hutchinson, RN Christie has been with Acute Kids since it’s opening in 2003. As Chief Operating Officer, she oversees the daily operations, including personnel decisions and quality control issues with the clinics. She has been a nurse since 2001 with all of her training in emergency medicine and pediatrics. Christie was honored as a Health Care Hero by the Dallas Business Journal in 2008. 	Sunshine Ewers, RN Sunshine has been with the Acute Kids since 2007 and is our Director of Nursing. She has been a nurse since 2006 with experience in Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. Sunshine is in charge of all staff education and training. Her initiatives for 2010 include helping our staff to make each child’s visit a unique experience.
